Advanced Concepts in High Performance Computing (HPC)

Prerequisites:

• Intro to High Performance Computing (HPC)
• The World is at your Command….line (or knowledge of basic Linux/Unix-like commands)

Overview:

High-performance computing (HPC) is here to help you get your work done faster! Building on our "Introduction to High Performance Computing (HPC)" workshop, this workshop goes deeper into HPC concepts and presents some practical examples of using our HPC clusters. Topics include:

• Working with the command-line: SSH, modules, file paths, compiling code
• Job scheduling:
  • Using job arrays to spawn many related jobs
  • Checkpointing your work to span multiple consecutive jobs
  • Requesting and using GPUs (graphics processing units) effectively
  • Using jobstats to understand the efficiency of your jobs
• Handling data: downloading, transferring and processing it
• Using VS Code and similar interfaces to access the clusters – dos and don'ts
