Dr. Sarah Whiting, Dean of the School of Architecture and William Ward Watkins Professor of Architecture, will be the featured speaker for the April presentation of The Books That Shaped My World. Dean Whiting will discuss the books that influenced or had special meaning in her life. A reception will follow the presentation.
This annual event and reception, sponsored by the Friends of Fondren Library, honors Rice faculty, staff, alumni and members of the Friends of Fondren Library who authored a book, edited a journal, composed a major musical work or mounted a one-person art show in calendar year 2015. A panel discussion with selected honorees and a question and answer session will follow the presentation. Join us in recognizing the outstanding accomplishments of our Rice family!
Join us for the Friends of Fondren Library's 36th annual gala dinner and auction honoring Rice baseball coaching legend Wayne Graham and his wife, Tanya. Proceeds from this annual event are used to enhance library collections, resources and facilities. Tables of 10 are available as well as individual tickets. Joe Karlgaard, Rice University Director of Athletics, Recreation & Lifetime Fitness, will be the featured speaker for the October presentation of The Books That Shaped My World. Dr. Karlgaard will discuss books that have been meaningful or had an impact on his life. A reception will follow the presentation.
Students and their families are invited to tour Fondren Library as part of Rice University's Families Weekend activities. The tours, hosted by Friends of Fondren Library, are led by Fondren Library staff and provide an overview of the study spaces and resources available to those who use the library.
In this fourth program of the Meet the Author series, Scott Dodson '96 will discuss his book “The Legacy of Ruth Bader Ginsburg.” A reception will follow the discussion.
This year's Friends of Fondren Library annual meeting and membership dinner will feature Gregory Curtis '66, one of the most respected magazine editors in the country. Under his 20-year tenure as editor-in-chief, Texas Monthly won five National Magazine Awards, generally considered the highest award in the magazine industry. Recipient of the 2015 Rice ARA Distinguished Alumni Award, Curtis is the author of two nonfiction books "Cave Painters" and "Disarmed."
